Prof. Sir John Gurdon in University of Yamanashi Memorial Symposium of Master’s Program in Life and Environmental Sciences
Memorial Symposium of Master’s Program in Life and Environmental Sciences (Kick-off Symposium of Practical Program for Developmental Bioscience and Biotechnology) was held in the clinical lecture hall of Medical Department on 10 March 2016. A Nobel Prize winner in physiology or medicine in 2012, Prof. Sir John Gurdon (University of Cambridge, UK) was invited as a lecturer.
First, vice president Hayakawa remarked about the purpose of the memorial symposium. Prof. Kurosawa, a program director, gave a guide talk about the Master’s Program that will be started on April 2016. Prof. Wakayama, a chief of Advanced Biotechnology Center, gave a preliminary lecture on reproductive biotechnology. And then, Prof. Gurdon gave the lecture entitled “The Saga of Nuclear Reprogramming”. He talked about the historical progress in developmental biology, particularly in nuclear transfer and nuclear reprogramming, for 60 minutes. He carefully answered the questions from the floor.
Over 400 people, including researchers, high school students, university students and professors, and so on, participated in the symposium. The audience listened earnestly to the lecture. We appreciated that this symposium was successfully done and exactly memorial event for University of Yamanashi.
