Paper by Dr. Hiromichi Nishiyama of Fuel Cell Nanomaterials Center, Prof. Junji Inukai of Clean Energy Research Center, and coworkers was elected and introduced on Supplementary Journal Cover in The Journal of Physical Chemistry C published by The American Chemical Society. The distributions of several types of water molecules in polymer electrolytes during power generation of fuel cells are believed to have enormous influences on the performance, durability, and stability, but monitoring the water species was very difficult. Dr. Nishiyama and coworkers applied coherent anti-Stokes Raman scattering spectroscopy to a running fuel cell to elucidate the distribution of four major types of water species. The results were highly evaluated by the journal editors, and the paper was selected to be introduced on the Supplementary Journal cover.
