Completion Ceremony of Special Online Courses for Supporting Ukraine
?On Tuesday, July 19, 2022, we held the Completion Ceremony of the Special Online Courses for Supporting Ukraine jointly with 5 Ukrainian universities, online.
?We have been offering online classes (the educational support project for Ukrainian students) ※1 to Ukrainian students who have been deprived of learning opportunities due to the military invasion of Ukraine by Russia.
?At the ceremony, President Shimada said, “Congratulations to all of you who have completed our online courses. It will be our great pleasure if anything you have learned in this course could be of any use in rebuilding your beautiful country. We sincerely hope that the days when all the young people who bear the future can receive an education with peace of mind will return to your home country as soon as possible.” At the end of his congratulatory address he gave a strong cheer to the Ukrainian students, “Слава Укра?н?! (Glory to Ukraine!)” in Ukrainian.
?Afterwards, we received greetings from their respective universities,Professor Vyacheslav Kharchenko ,National Aerospace University “Kharkiv Aviation Institute”, the lead university for this project, said, ” We thank you for giving Ukrainian students such a great learning opportunity.Students who lost the opportunity to learn due to Russia’s invasion were able to study cutting-edge AI technology thanks to the support of University of Yamanashi under the leadership of President Shimada.”
?Additionally, we received greetings from students who took the course.
?Mr.Andrii Didenk , National University Zaporizhzhia Polytechnic, who received the certificate as a representative of the students, said, “I was very happy when I heard about this ceremony. The AI course I took was one of the best I have ever taken. I hope that the cooperation between Ukraine and Japan will continue in the future.”
?Ms.Yelyzaveta Omelchuk, H.S. Skvoroda Kharkiv State Pedagogical University, who took the Language and Communication across Cultures course, said, “I really enjoyed the class very much. During the class, I was able to exchange opinions with students of the University of Yamanashi and learned about Japanese and other cultures. I am grateful for this opportunity.”
We will continue this support project in response to requests from Ukraine.

?The University of Yamanashi received a request from National Aerospace University “Kharkiv Aviation Institute” in Ukraine to provide distance lectures for graduate students who lost learning opportunities due to the Russian invasion.
?By this request, we offered several courses of advanced computer science and engineering technologies and also a liberal arts course in which Japanese and international students can learn about different cultures and the communications across different cultures.
