Electrical and Electronic Eng. Graduate student Ryo Okawa won the Best Students Poster Paper Award at the 12th Advanced Lasers and Photon Sources, ALPS2023
Ryo Okawa, a first-year student of Electrical and Electronic Engineering Course in the Master’s Program of the Interdisciplinary Graduate School of Medicine, Engineering and Agricultural Sciences, University of Yamanashi (Supervisor: Assoc. Prof. Kazuyuki Uno) won the Best Students Poster Paper Award at the 12th Advanced Lasers and Photon Sources, ALPS2023 on April 18 to 21, 2023.
The awarded subject is “Development of longitudinally excited CO2 laser without He gas”. In the operation of CO2 lasers used in industries and medicine, a mixed gas typically containing helium (He) is commonly used. However, helium gas is a valuable resource and has become difficult to obtain due to recent world circumstances. In this study, we achieved high-repetition-rate and high-power operation of CO2 lasers without using helium gas by controlling the discharge.
Okawa expressed his happiness, saying “I am extremely delighted to have received the Best Students Poster Award at this international conference, ALPS2023. I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to Assoc. Prof. Kazuyuki Uno, who provided guidance for this achievement, as well as to all the co-researchers and members of our laboratory. With this award as motivation, I will continue to dedicate myself to research activities with enthusiasm and enjoyment.”
