Cultural Exchange Event at International Residence hall
?Annual cultural exchange event for international students and the local community (Members of Iwakubo Resident’s Association) was held at International Residence Hall on Sun.Nov. 19th, 2017.
?This was the 14th event and around 100 people including Mr. Yuichi Higuchi , the Mayor of Kofu City, and Dr. Yoshiyuki Sugiyama, the Executive Director and vice president of University of Yamanashi took part in the event.
?International students introduced their cultures by entertaining community members with their hand-made dishes. There were 17 kinds of dishes from 10 countries (Nepal, Pakistan, Malaysia, China, Germany, U.K., France, Australia, Vietnam, Korea and Thailand), and all these traditional dishes were so fresh to participants and all enjoyed them very much.
?As the highlight of the event, international students experienced Mochi-tsuki (pounding steamed sticky rice into rice cake) with the kind guidance by the members of Iwakubo Resident’s Association, several Japanese students who participated the event as the representative of university dormitory Fuyoryo also tried Mochi-tsuki.
?After enjoying the taste of mochi, participants enjoyed monologue performance and chorus by the international students as well as traditional dram performance by Iwakubo Resident’s Association. It was such a heart warming day that further strengthened the tie between international students and local community.
