Professor Kazuko Miyamoto was awarded by the Government of Cambodia

　On March 21, 2024, Professor Kazuko Miyamoto of the Center for the Promotion of Internationalization was awarded by the government of the Kingdom of Cambodia (Order of Sahmetrai) at the Pidan Unfolding Ceremony held in the Kingdom of Cambodia.
　This decoration is given to foreigners who have made outstanding contributions in the field of foreign relations and diplomatic missions for the King and people of Cambodia as a sign of friendship. Professor Miyamoto’s efforts in collecting and preserving the traditional designs of the Pidan kasuri (Ikat) weaving technique as a member of a group of Japanese volunteers (Pidan Project Team: PPT) since 2003 in Cambodia have been recognized, as well as their donation of these designs to the National Museum in August last year.
　Professor Miyamoto has been engaged in regional health activities in Cambodia since 2000 and discovered Cambodia’s first endemic area of Opisthorchis viverini. She has conducted investigations into its actual conditions and implemented preventive measures, contributing to health promotion efforts.
　On receiving the award, Professor Miyamoto commented: “I have been working to preserve Cambodia’s very unique and beautiful silk weaving and culture. I hope that this unique culture will be inscribed on the World Cultural Heritage List.”
