Researcher from Interdisciplinary Center for River Basin Environment and three graduate students from Department of Engineering received Excellent Presentation Award at WET2023-Online conference

One researcher from Interdisciplinary Center for River Basin Environment (ICRE), two doctoral course students of Environmental and Social System Science Course, and one master’s course student of Special Educational Program on River Basin Environmental Science in Department of Engineering received Excellent Presentation Award at the international conference “Water and Environment Technology Conference Online 2023 (WET2023-Online)” held on July 8-9, 2023, The award is given to outstanding presentations that are worthy of research encouragement, and this year, 14 winners received the award out of 104 presenters.

The winners of this year’s award from University of Yamanashi are as follows:

Dr. Shrestha Sadhana (Researcher, ICRE)
Host researcher: Prof. Eiji Haramoto (ICRE)
Presentation title: Estimation of norovirus infections in Japan using wastewater-based epidemiology approach capturing seasonal pattern
Message: It is with profound humility and honor that I accept the prestigious Excellent Presentation Award during the WET2023-online conference. I want to extend my heartfelt appreciation to Prof. Eiji Haramoto, whose support and mentorship have resulted in this remarkable opportunity. Furthermore, my gratitude extends to Dr. Bikash Malla and my esteemed colleagues in the Haramoto Laboratory, whose collaborative efforts have undoubtedly contributed to this achievement. This award serves as an encouragement for me to conduct even more captivating research works and to make meaningful contributions to the field of water and environmental technology.

Presentation title: Quantification of multiple respiratory viruses in wastewater in Kathmandu, Nepal: potential implication of wastewater-based epidemiology for community disease surveillance
Message: I was so humbled and grateful to receive Excellent Presentation Award. I am incredibly grateful for this recognition and would like to thank everyone who supported me along the way. I couldn’t have done it without the support and guidance of my amazing supervisor, Prof. Eiji Haramoto, who guided me throughout the research and motivated me to join the conference every time. My achievement was also supported by laboratory members and family. I am looking forward to the next opportunity to present our work and progress toward a better researcher in the field. I will continue to help the community through research work.

Mr. Daniel Twum-Ampofo (1st-year doctoral student of River Basin Environmental Science Major, Environmental and Social System Science Course, Department of Engineering)

Presentation title: Evaluation of biomass productivity of four microalgae in food industrial waste-medium and wastewater-medium
Message: I am truly humbled and grateful to have received Excellent Presentation Award. I owe this accomplishment to the guidance of my supervisor Prof. Toyama Tadashi. The support from my seniors and lab colleagues was of much help. I am eager to keep developing and improving as a researcher, to contribute to water and environmental technologies, especially in developing countries.

Ms. Annisa Andarini Ruti (1st-year master’s course student of Special Educational Program on River Basin Environmental Science, Department of Engineering)

Presentation title: Pathogenic bacteria identification by quantitative PCR at wastewater treatment plants in Bandung City, Indonesia
Message:Naturally it’s a great honor and a pleasant surprise to be one of the recipients of Excellent Presentation Award. I am really thankful for Prof. Haramoto for his guidance, and it was only by his supervision I was able to conduct this research and participate in the conference. My research topic is a part of international joint research between University of Yamanashi and Institute Technology Bandung, and I would like to convey my gratitude to all the teams involved. I wouldn’t be able to reach this point without my laboratory members, who enthusiastically shared their knowledge and expertise to guide me. Last but not least I am thankful for my family’s continuous support. I hope this award will be a beginning for other great opportunities. Hopefully I can contribute more for the world, especially to be useful for my country.
