Educational Goals

? The University of Yamanashi, under the slogan “Creating the Backbone of the Community and Developing Citizens of the World,” aims to serve as a center of knowledge for the region and to nurture human resources with expertise so that they can play an active role in the world. To be conferred a degree, students are required to acquire specialized knowledge and skills in their majors. Also, they are required to develop the ability to think, make decisions, express themselves, and learn independently and in collaboration with a wide range of people, and the ability to demonstrate these skills in an integrated manner. In other words, they must learn and think by themselves. For this reason, the University of Yamanashi awards degrees to students who have achieved the specialized knowledge and skills specified in their undergraduate programs, as well as the following liberal arts and general-purpose abilities specified throughout the university:

– Liberal Arts
　Graduates are expected to acquire knowledge in a variety of disciplines and to have the ability to create new knowledge by intellectually seeking, in accordance with the “integration of various disciplines” of the university charter.? Graduates are also expected to have the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary to lead healthy lives both physically and mentally, as well as the basic knowledge and foreign language skills necessary to play an active role in their communities and the world:

– General-purpose Abilities
　In addition to the ability to think, make decisions, express themselves, and learn independently and in collaboration with a variety of people, graduates are expected to acquire the ability to integrate these skills, in other words, the ability to learn and think by themselves.? Graduates are expected to acquire the following general-purpose abilities:

1. Communication Skills
　Reading comprehension, written expression, listening comprehension, oral? presentation, and discussion ? ? skills
2. Information Literacy
　Ability to collect and to select correct information and understand information ethics
3. Quantitative Literacy
　Ability to understand, analyze, and express a variety of information mathematically or numerically using ?? statistics and other methods
4. Logical Thinking
　Ability to capture information from multiple perspectives objectively, and explain it in a coherent and ? ? ? ?? reasoned manner
5. Problem-Solving
　Problem-setting ability, conceptualization ability, planning ability, execution ability, and reflection ability
